Yeah Yeah Yeah Belsonic!

Dearest ones,

I can but apologise for my tardiness of late. The overwhelming amount of events has...well...overwhelmed me. I don't know about anyone else, but I am proud as punch of Belfast at the minute!

Firstly, the Yeah Yeah Yeahs. Great gig, although I know for sure that a certain local DJ was fairly gutted to have missed his shout out from Karen O herself. Begs the question- what the hell was he doing to have missed that? Wowza!

Last night, opening night at Belsonic, and what a night! Custom House Square is really shaping up to be a great venue, despite some of its poorer attended Tall Ships events. Truly, less gossip was going on inside though, as everyone seemingly was having too much fun.

Local boys done good, Two Door Cinema Club really outdid themselves- besides some of the bigger names, there was more than a respectable amount of people dancing. Perhaps the recent Kitsuné signing has blasted them stellar- either way, good for them!

Outside, one couldn't help but noticed some really tragic attempts at entering from a couple of drunken groups... One such couple were clearly too too drunk, and despite actually being on the guestlist, were sent away, tail between legs. For shame!

Some of the names of note in Belfast need to watch their reputations. Certainly, last night was probably the one night which would draw the youngest crowd. These were less Lolitas and more jail bait. Watch yourself boys... there are too many Belfast boys liking the school skirts!

One delicious group of Dubliners also had a little too much fun, and missed their last bus home. Not a big deal I hear you mutter, only that one of the party had to return to his brother's wedding, as he was best man. I wonder if he made it? Certainly, his drunken "Ahh sure I'll as will in me arse make the bus now, in for a penny eh?" indicated a lack of worry...

Elsewhere in the city, last night saw a rather more exclusive/small crowd at The Menagerie for a fundraiser for Red Lemon. Strong performances from most of the acts, indeed all but one went down unashamedly well from what I have heard. The overriding problem with such small events I suppose is that gossip flows, and today flowed back to my welcome inbox. One broken hearted young lady, of prior hook up I have mentioned, was to discreetly bid farewell to a fleeting boy of Belfast. There was another missed shout out, as well as an early exit from a notorious slip-awayer, but last night was for reasons other than the usual too-much-to-drink-too-soon. Seemingly everyone but the one person who ought to know, knows about this- why so dumb Dumbo?

So tonight and where to go? Certainly, one must wonder if Blackout will continue to draw the crowds of the past few weeks with so many other events. A rumour, oh-so-very-convienently-started by a Blackouteer, was pitched on Facebook that that Gigantic is cancelled tonight...poor form old boy! Well may he worry- 2manydjs are a huge draw down at Belsonic, and it is hardly a secret that upstairs in McHugh's provides an excellent free showing of what is going on in the square. Get down early folks, as the management are already prepared for chaos. This influx may prove wonderfully beneficial for a local small time eventsman, who is trying to set up a country night in the basement...whether drunken last resort counts as true attendance though...

As for me, well, as ever, I shall be everywhere and nowhere.

-The Belle of Belfast
